St. Paul: Let women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted them to speak, but to be subject, as also the law saith. But if they would learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is a shame for a woman to speak in the church. 1 Cor 14 (wouldn’t it be funny/sad/telling if this reading was in the N.O. lectionary, and was being read to the congregation by a woman?!)
Contra St. Paul: ***Probably the most newsy — and somewhat unexpected — item in the final propositions of the Synod of Bishops on the Bible was a proposal to allow women to be officially installed in the ministry of lector.
The issue was raised in Proposition 17 on “The ministry of the word and women,” and on Saturday morning it passed with 191 votes in favor, 45 opposed and three abstentions, according to our sources***.CNS article
Isn’t that special? I cringe when I hear people speak of Modernism in the past tense, as if it was some early 20th century heresy that was crushed, vanquished, and we can now breathe easy. Nonsense. Modernism has the Church in a strangle hold, and is slowly squeezing the life out of Her as we watch. These men with itchy ears are running the Church, and are the instruments of destruction. You never know what they are going to do, they’re almost totally untrustworthy. Another abuse becomes the norm.
Just a matter of time for Mothers instead of Fathers?:
I find this rather unfortunate since the advocates of W/O will try to use this as the proverbial camel’s nose under the tent flap. That said, I would take note that even if this foolishness were adopted it would not constitute admission to orders.
Remember that in the ancient Church there were only three recognized sacramental orders, they being the diaconate, the priesthood (presbyter), and episcopacy. The concept of the so called “minor orders” was an innovation of the medieval Western Church. To the extent that these positions exist in the Eastern Churches they have always been understood to be lay offices. Of course it is and has always been the discipline of the Church that only those in orders are to announce the Gospel during Divine Liturgy. Lay persons may chant the Epistle and Old Testament readings. But except in highly unusual circumstances they should be men.

*The ministry of the word*….
How I abhor mumbospeak. It’s numbing. Whoever heard such a thing INSIDE THE CATHOLIC CHURCH before the novus ordo? It is precisely the liturgical concoction called the *new mass* that is responsible for these aberrations, including the feminization of the liturgy. The arbitrary theological weakness of the so-called *new mass* positively INVITES aberrations, like myriad withering shoots off a diseased main stem. If the malaise is hardly confined to America, it typically seems to find its most repugnant manifestations here. Pathetic. Resist it manfully!
John: I know they were once considered “minor orders”, but it just adds fuel to the fire of dissent. They just bless another abuse.
Thomas John: I know, isn’t it strange when the Vatican itself becomes a radical agent of change? It’s a complete reversal of what it always was.
They are indeed making it into a “womens Religion”, this when radical Islam is roaming about. They average NO that I attended can be best described as “pastel”. It was like Oprah, any normal man would cringe, and run for the door.
This is crazy. We do not need more lay ministers of anything. We need more priests, more holy priests. Instead of wasting time with issues like this the Bishops should focus more time on improving CCD and trying to get better vocations to the priesthood.
This is a ploy by feminists to take away more and more duties from the priests in the agenda to finally get women ordained.
This news was very upsetting, but certainly not surprising. Hopefully the Holy Father will move quickly to quash this proposal, but only time will tell. Thank you for posting the information on the news.
Last photo looks like kind of Anglican women-priest ‘field’ ‘ordination’.
Wow. That propostion would set back any progress we’ve made with the East.
We need to bring back the minor orders, not destroy them any more than they all ready are.
I would love to blame those pics on the Episcopalians, but I think they are part of the womynpriest.org “Roman Catholic” folks having their riverboat ordinations…
