It is easier to formulate an answer to the other question- what defense, what remedy should we use against the Devil’s action? — even though it remains difficult to put into practice. We could say: everything that defends us from sin strengthens us by that very fact against the invisible enemy. Grace is the decisive defense. Innocence takes on the aspect of strength. Everyone recalls how often the apostolic method of teaching used the armor of a soldier as a symbol for the virtues that can make a Christian invulnerable. The Christian must be a militant; he must be vigilant and strong;and he must at times make use of special ascetical practices to escape from certain diabolical attacks. Jesus teaches us this by pointing to “prayer and fasting” as the remedy. (Pope Paul VI: Confronting the Devil’s Power)

Incredible, a man who was raised in and lived through such splendor actively worked for its abolishment or suppression.
Just incredible.
His Holiness Pope Paul VI of exceedingly unhappy memory…
It is sad then when you look at pictures of Paul VI at the end of his reign that the Masses/Papal Ceremonial protocol look very much like they do now.

Well, from the moment that no one listened to Cardinal Ottavianni (the then head of the Holy Office), there was no way back and no stop.
Many times it just seems as if Paul VI was ashamed of being Pope and wearing (using) anything that reminded him of that, especially the vestments that the Pope alone wore.
Man, I hate to say this, but Paul the VI, looks just like my Father in law, explains a lot!

Blessed be our beloved Pope Paul VI forever!
