A presidential election forum at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church on Sunday centered mainly on abortion. The argument and audience, however, erupted when Diocese of Scranton Bishop Joseph F. Martino unexpectedly arrived and vehemently expressed his distaste for what was said about the church’s stance on voting for pro-choice candidates and the exclusion of his anti-abortion letter at the forum, which recommends voting against pro-choice candidates for moral reasons. Martino, who arrived while the panelists were stating their viewpoints, took issue with the USCCB statement, which was handed out to everyone at the meeting, and also that his letter was not mentioned once at the forum.

“No USCCB document is relevant in this diocese,” said Martino. “The USCCB doesn’t speak for me.”

“The only relevant document … is my letter,” he said. “There is one teacher in this diocese, and these points are not debatable.”….The letter also states that Catholic public officials who “persist in public support for abortion” should “not partake in or be admitted to the sacrament of Holy Communion.”

“No social issue has caused the death of 50 million people,” he said, nothing that he no longer supports the Democratic Party. “This is madness people.” Full Article (hat tip to Aufer a Nobis)

See that you all follow the bishop, even as Jesus Christ does the Father, and the presbytery as you would the apostles; and reverence the deacons, as being the institution  of God. Let no man do anything connected with the Church without the bishop. Let that be deemed a proper  Eucharist, which is [administered] either  by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it. Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude [of the people] also be; even as, wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church. (Epistle of St. Ignatius of Antioch to the Smyrnaeans)

Take a look at the man in the below pictures. Doesn’t he look like one of the olden time Saints? He is Bl. Giaconto Longhin, who died in 1936. When I was a kid and I saw statues & pictures of the ancient Sainted bishops, I always wondered if they actually looked like that. You know: patriarchal, long stately white beard, cope & miter, so dignified looking etc.. well, here’s your proof…

Oh, those silly trads wanting to restore the Sedia Gestatoria..Don’t they know it’s old-fashioned, and stupid? It’s just so…so…Romish, so particular! Don’t they know it causes ecumenical problems with our seperated Eastern Brethren? How it elevates the Bishop of Rome!

Whoa! wait, hold on a minute, these fellas don’t look like the Bishop of Rome (the hot pink vestments are a dead give away). These pics are from Episcopal Consecrations of Syrian, and Malankar Bishops. Is there a possibility there is an ancient link with the custom of the Bishop of Rome being carried on his day of Coronation? A common custom of the early Church ?

For we are God’s coadjutors: you are God’s husbandry; you are God’s building. According to the grace of God that is given to me, as a wise architect, I have laid the foundation; and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. For other foundation no man can lay, but that which is laid; which is Christ Jesus. (Cor 3:9)
