What are you waiting for?! Get on the boat. Cross the Tiber.
At least one Church of England bishop will defect to Rome soon after the Lambeth Conference, I gather from Anglo-Catholic sources. And there could be more to follow.
I can’t tell you much more than that at the moment, because the negotiations with Rome are so sensitive – and the Catholic Bishops of England and Wales, who distrust Anglican traditionalists, are quite capable of throwing a spanner in the works. (Holy Smoke Blog)
Would Anglican traditionalists be amicable with Catholic traditionalists? Do you think that if a significant number of Anglicans became Catholic that it would help the Latin Masses out there?
I can’t speak for all “trads”, but I think Catholic Trads have more in common with Anglican trads than we do with liberal, or even moderate NO Catholics. If I remember correctly there are “Anglican Use” Catholic parishes, and the liturgy is pretty much the Tridentine Mass in English (something to use for “reform of the reform”?) . Doctrical differences? I’m no theologian, but besides the Papacy (which the trad Anglicans do seem to accept), I don’t think their are many, or even any difference (I mean with the Anglo-Caths, the mainstream Anglican seems to be very progressive, or whatever they feel like)
The trouble is the non-trad RCs in charge hate the Anglo-Catholic (ex-)Anglicans for many of the same reasons they hate RC trads. On top of that there’s the Irish hatred of things they see as English.
The Traditional Anglican Communion (TAC) currently has a petition sitting on the desk of the CDF requesting to be admitted to communion with Rome as a uniate Anglio-Catholic Church. Although there are a lot of rumors floating around one that has been persistent is that B-16 is very supportive of the idea. I think this is going to happen and it is likely only a matter of time and details.

One of the major stumbling blocks for traditional Anglicans is the Novus Ordo. It scares them to no end. The more traditional Anglicans have a highly developed sense of taste, propriety, and the practice of religion. The average Novus Ordo parish does not offer the type of religion that appeals to them (or many of us Roman Catholics for that matter).
Compare the worship at this Anglo-Catholic parish:

IMHO, the best solution in the long term, for those Anglican parishes wishing to swim the Tiber, would be to create some sort of ‘sui juris’ Anglican Use Church, comparable to the Eastern Rite Catholic Churches. As well, some version of ‘The English Missal’ (the Knott & Co. Missal) and ‘The English Breviary’ (the Margaretine Order Breviary) should be approved for their use.
It is a very sad reality that Anglicans would stay out of the Catholic Church because the impoverishment of our Liturgy. To think that the “Liturgical Church” par excellence would have fallen on such hard times after VatII. Oscar Wilde would have never converted. The Anglican Use makes the NO look silly. It also would shut people up who complain about “people can’t understand Latin, bla.bla..bla”.
I wouldn’t mind if there where more of the Anglican Use parishes around, I would alternate with the TLM (once their in Union of course). For me, the primary was never about the Language (as much as I love the Latin now), it was more of the dignity of Worship. The NO is just so banal, and has a casual “meeting house” feel to it, whereas a “Tridentine Mass” in classical English is a very beautiful form of Worship.

Been saying that for years.
Serge, one can hope that the “Reform of the Reform” Liturgy can look something like the Anglican use in the future.
Ken,
This just came out. Thought you might find it interesting.
