Who is offering the Mass? I mean, which priest?
Oh, I also have to say: (1) I love this blog and (2) that first photo of Pius XII in this post is the best ever
Josephus, sorry I don’t know who the priest is.
Eddie, if you see this, do you know?
Also Josephus: Thank you
The name of the Celebrant is Fr. Carlos Viego (from New Jersey). He recently learned to say the traditional Mass, but he is very good and sings very well, too.
Sr. Marchione has already confirmed that she will be there to give the lecture and she will bring the Relics.
Thanks Ed,
I will be there.
This is great news, but what about the title of venerable, when will it be given to Pius XII?
This is great! I will be there. Thanks for the notification ken.
Dear Hallowed Ground,
This is great news. Are you aware of any way that we can get more popular devotion to this saintly Pope. I have been reading all of his Encyclicals and they are models of theological method and precision. Mediator Dei is probably the best thing ever written on the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, and his Encyclicals on the Blessed Virgin Mary established not only her Assumption, but her Queenship and her role as Mediatri as well. His canonization would be a great victory for orthodoxy and a great defeat for modernisism. Would you mind posting our Website for a new society of Apostolic life; The ApostlesofJesusChrist, Priest and Victim. We offer the Holy Sacrifice in the ordinary and extra-ordinary form and we encoourage devotion to the Sacred Heart, the Immaculate Heart, and St. Joseph. We are a society of diocesan priests trying to renew parish life, and holiness in the priesthood. See the Website for more details. Peace, Father Ben Reese
Hello Father, I have added your site to the blogroll.
Well, possibly if people just talked about him, defend the reputation against the calumny. Occasions like this in NYC to just pray for this Beatification would make people interested.
Your Welcome Walter,
Ken
The title of Venerable has already been given to Pope Pius XII.
The intention of this Mass will be his Beatification and ultimate Canonization.
The best way to help in the process of Pius XII’s beatification would be to pray that it happen, to read his writings and talk about them to people who do not know them.
Also, to pray to Pius XII for his intercession.
I wish I could be there.
I don’t know if anyone else has noticed this but why does Pius XII never ever look at the camera, when his photo being taken?
Ottaviani, I think I heard this before (maybe you, or someone else said that in a past comment). I think maybe because he was doing something, and not posing.
Well, my guess is that he did not think that the intent of being filmed was to show his eyes or anything like that. It probably has something to do with the difference in technology now and then…
Also, many of the books about him do mention that Pius XII was very shy and did not like to be filmed or be in public. He always got nervous, but he thought that, as Pope, being filmed and photographed would be beneficial for the faithful and it would help much more to spread the message he needed to convey/preach to the world.
latinmass1983, please, when was the title of Venerable given to Pius XII?
This blog thread begins with the words …
“A Sung Mass in the Extraordinary Rite”
Is that the first line of a flyer being posted/circulated?
If so, it needs to be corrected to read …
“A Sung Mass in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite”
The Catholic Church does not refer to any “Rite” as “Extraordinary” — as though there were a second, separate Rite from another (”Ordinary”) Rite.
Rather, the Church refers to this “Form” of the SINGLE Roman Rite as “Extraordinary.” As obedient Catholics, we use the same terminology. If we refuse, we are guilty of sins of pride, disobedience, and bad example.
@Humbolt,
It was in 2000… September? When the person is declared to have achieved the heroic level of Christian virtues, the title is given. It usually happens before the process of beatification begins.
@mmm,
1) The person who wrote this is not familiar with the particulars of Rites/Uses/Forms… and I did not want to “modify” it when sending it to other people.
2) “Extraordinary Form” does not really make sense at all, except for the fact that the Holy Father used the phrase… Why wasn’t it called that before then?
The name of a Rite of the Church (or Form, if you like) does not really lend itself to “sins of pride, disobedience, and bad example,” especially when you see even Prelates of the Church “playing around” with the “names” of the Roman Rite (now they are using “Gregorian”). Please, all these things just add to the confusion.. AND the Holy Father did *not* mean to give the traditional Mass a new name.
3) Terminology will not lead anyone to sin, but it could lead to confusion if you get stuck on which one to use. I, personally, just go with the most widely accepted one and the one that makes the most sense: the traditional (Roman) Mass.
As far as I know, there are no flyers that are going to be distributed.
Also, did the Pope, before he became Pope, really think that the two “forms” were one Rite? I would look into that with a little more dedication because some things he said when he was Cardinal were really critical of the “Ordinary Form” and the fact that he spoke about “rupture” hints at the possibility, at least that, that at some point there was the idea or possibility that they could not be the same Rite.
Hey mmm, Relax yourself there guy. Accusing people of disobedience for this? Come on. Step away from the screen, get some air.
And BTW, I ain’t changin nothing! Don’t like it, don’t look.
latinmass1983, how was this possible when only on May 8, 2007 the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints recommended that Pope Benedict XVI formaly declared Pius XII, venerable.
See information at: http://www.piusxiipope.info/ And this information was posted by Sr. Margherita Marchione.
Somebody is mistaken?
Humboldt,
Now you’ve got me curious!
Surely, Sr. Marchione will know better than any of us, but I have seen and heard the title of Venerable used in reference to Pius XII many, many times, even before the election of Benedict XVI.
The date given above is from Wikipedia (which could be wrong, of course!), but it also appears in other sites that give information about Pius XII.
I have already sent an e-mail to someone who should be able to clarify the information. If not, I will personally ask Sr. Marchione when I see her on Sept. 6th.
What confuses me, though, is that the petitions and requests always ask that Pius XII be beatified and not that his virtues be recognized as heroic, which is what leads me to believe that he already has the title of Venerable.
Well, soon we’ll find out for sure…
@ Humbolt,
Now I know where the confusion/mistakes came from. This is the reply that I to the e-mail that I told you I sent asking for clarification on the status of “Venerable” with regards to Pius XII:
“The cause of Pius was introduced by Pope Paul VI on November18, 1965, approved investigation for “venerable” by Pope John Paul II on September 2, 2000, and title of “venerable” approved on May 8, 2007 by the Congregation on the Saints, but Pope Benedict XVI has yet to act formally to approve what was an unanimous vote.”
I hope that helps!
[...] This has to be the best photograph of the Venerable Pope Pius XII that I’ve ever seen. From the Hallowedground: [...]
Yes, latinmass1983, now this is more like it.
Pope Pius XII failure to act to save more Jews will prevent him from canonization. Even if he miraculously obtains the honor he will forever be known as Hitler’s Pope.
“German Jew” : I’m impressed that a man of your age is Internet saavy. You must be in your 80’s to have such an intimate knowledge of the situation in 40’s Rome.
Also, who cares what you think? Since when are the Saints of God subject to Jewish approval? It’s not my fault your stupid enough to buy the ADL’s propaganda.
BTW: With the growing threat of Islam in the West, you would think that such an intelligent people would try to befriend themselves to Christians of all stripes, instead of alienating them with this nonsense.
