Notice some new things in these pictures? (besides the glorious cope) The Crozier His Holiness used is not the twisted Paul VI cross, but a normal looking Crucifix. Small steps……

In a more serious note, His Holiness condemned the voilence in Iraq, and spoke of the Martyred Bishop:
Benedict has called Rahho’s death an “inhuman act of violence” that offended human dignity. On Sunday, Benedict praised Rahho for his loyalty to Christ and his refusal to abandon his flock despite many threats and difficulties.

Benedict said Rahho’s dedication to the Catholic Church and his death compelled him to “raise a strong and sorrowful cry” to denounce the violence in Iraq spawned by the war that began five years ago this week. (Read Rest)

Pope Benedict meeting with Archbishop Paulos Faraj Rahho (who was Martyed last week by the Mohomedans).Let us Pray for the conversion of his murderers, and all Muslims to the One True Faith. The Blood of the Martyrs is the seed of the Church. The Header has also changed for Holy Week. It is a detail of a painting by Tiepolo, entitled: Christ Carrying the Cross

Wonderful pictures.
And a sign, I pray, of even greater things to come. Perhaps the triregnum is a little too much to hope for at the moment, but who knows . . .
I look forward to what the Holy Father has laid out for Easter Sunday.
In spite of their despicable act in kidnapping the archbishop, even the muzzies must have that he was a true man of God.
There is no evidence of turture (almost unheard of in the muzzie world) and he was actually buried, rather than beheaded and dumped by the side of the road (which is also customary in the muzzie world).
That said, we should pray ceaselessly for the conversion of all people in the Middle East – jewish and muslim.
Diego: I don’t think the Tiaras’ gonna come back any time soon. I am hoping the next thing would be the red canopy over the Throne during Mass.
Anthony: “pray ceaselessly for the conversion of all people in the Middle East – jewish and muslim”
Agreed
Does anyone know what that new Crozier Cross is, perhaps its replaced the old Paul VI one that was looking very tired and very 1970’s.
Also I think canopy covers over thrones are actually banned by litugical orders of Paul VI..pity.
I dont think we will see a tiara back,,actually they were only ever used at cornonations and not liturgy. It should of been present at the installation and definatly used on Ben.XVI Papal Crest rather than mitre.
Copes and Mitres are a lot better,,Hopefully sedia will make a come back,,also I notice servers wearing all white albs rather than black and white..not good.
Also anyone notice that Swiss Guard never wear frilled collar anymore,,whys that.
Would also like to see Swiss Guard escort Pope also officers in Uniform rather than black suits.
top notch visual treat.

Here’s my take on the occasion. old school.
Carolina, I had that pic in my last post
Great minds think alike!
Great to see traditional cross and the Cope was magnificent but I was disappointed to see the Pope wearing such a plain and modern Mitre and Chasuble.
The Mitre’s not so bad, but I don’t see why he’s sticking with the chintzy chasubles.
The Chasuble was pretty much standard Vat II style nothing special there. The problem is, all the traditional chasubles are Old Roman Fiddle back styles and it will be very controversial for him to wear that style..although once and a while would be good.
The Mitre was ok but not great..but a huge improvement on some of the obinations worn in recent years. I recall the disco style cope and mitre JPII wore for the opening of the holy doors in 2000. Yuck..
Also cardinal deacons would be better in tall baroque mitre rather than those modern mini mitres. No sign of the fanon or maniple.
Well, His Holiness’ mitre is fine– it’s nice, actually. And the chasuble is fine– yes, he could’ve worn one that matched that awesome cope, but at least it’s not that horrible tie-dye thing like he wore that one time with that blue mitre– uggghhh….
As for the throne canopy, he’s the pope– I’m sure he can bring it back.
look the canopy will only be back by change if canon law..and that will take a while..ok so forget about that..it wont happen.
sedia was never banned by church law neither was tiara..but i diubt if either will ever happen..
also altar server appear to be wearing plain white albs nows rather that black and white alb and surplice..big backward step.
we need sedia, canopy, noble guard, papal court, and fabelum back but it wont happen. to many Vat II cronies.
Pius XII was the last true prince of christ
traditionalists’ reactions to the “bent and ugly” cross remind me of this:
There was in him no stately bearing to make us look at him, nor appearance that would attract us to him. (Is 53:2)
