Re: 3rd pic
Slender guy + Tall mitre = not a good combination
Thin bishops look better with a shorter mitre, like in the 5th pic.
Why is a Benedictine cardinal wearing a scarlet mozetta, prior to 1969?
i’d never heard of him..he looks very holy…
I hate to say this, as I know folks might take this the wrong way, and… not to be disrepectful of the Blessed Cardinal, ..but, doesn’t he kind of look a lil’ like Pee-Wee Herman? (especially in the 1st pic)
He’s got a serenity about him.
I like the monstrance in the one picture–kind of looks like an old railroad lantern. I wonder if perhaps it is fashioned after a lantern to remind us that Christ is the light of the world?
To Cory. The monstrance he is using was the common type of monstrance used in Milan at that time, as Milan was the seat of the Ambrosian Rite of Mass. It is a Ambrosian type Monstrance. Blessed Ildefonso Cardinal Schuster, who has been belittled recently by the press, is probably one of the most holy men to live. He governed a complex and multi-ritual Diocese very effectively, was a Benedictine Monk at heart, and was basically begged to be the Archbishop of Milan. He always concentrated on his own personal sanctity and the personal sanctity of his flock, praying for them and giving good example to all those to follow. I hope that he is Canonized soon. Pax Domini Sit Semper Vobiscum.
I over exagerated on the part where he was begged to be the Archbishop of Milan. He was asked and accepted.
Blessed Alfredo Ildefonso Schuster was granted permission to wear the ‘porpora’ by Pious XI, who said: “In Milan no cardinal will wear black!”. The monstrance is according to the Ambrosian Rite, still in use in the Milanese Archdiocese and in some parts of other dioceses (Novara, Lugano in Switzerland) which were portion of the Archdioces in past centuries. Blessed cardinal Schuster was a true example of a holy Shepherd and i have never heard His name mentioned by elderly priest without the adjectif “holy” (Il santo cardinal Schuster) even before the beatification.
