I tend to like the gilded Roman-Style “fiddleback” chasubles, and Baroque vestments, particularly on the Pontifical level. However, Benedict is harkening back to an even older tradition in the Church with his “look”. I am, or course, referring to pallium worn by bishops. He brought back the older, larger style. I admit, I kind of like it, when done well. If only Marini would put him into some decent looking Gothic chasubles that is. That “look” for a Pontiff is very ancient, as most of the mosaics seen below are from between the 3rd-5th Century. If only he sported the Tiara like Innocent III. Spot the similarities:
I never thought I would have a pic of Cardinal Kasper of my blog, but there you go.
