also if you visit st john lateran basilica on a saturday there is a door on the right side of the porch which leads into the lateran palace . You pay your half crown and then you pass by a collection of papal sedans then the room where the lateran treaty was signed then finally to a corridor of portraits of the pope the sedia gestotoria the flabellum in cases all well preserved and then mannequins dressed in all of the uniforms of the papal court the papal zouaves the noble and palatine guards its the most fun you can have in Rome. Also i read that a pair of flabellum are in a musuem of ethonagraphy in the states i think pennselyvania uni there were traditional always four not two , two were given to the patriach of lisbon who also had a tiara carried before him and carried on the sedia not sure what he does today
